Treat the nameplate as a clue, not final proof

A readable model code, serial number and manufacturer name are useful starting points. They can suggest a product family, rotation option or original displacement range, but do not prove that the installed unit has the same shaft, mounting, brake, port layout or control arrangement as the catalogue version.

Photograph the nameplate, complete motor and connection points before the old part is removed. Preserve the information even if the motor is no longer serviceable.

Measure the mechanical interface directly

Record mounting flange pilot, bolt circle, hole quantity and thread or hole diameter. Measure shaft diameter, usable length, spline or key profile and coupling engagement depth. Note total length, housing diameter and nearby machine parts that can interfere with installation.

If the output shaft sees radial or axial load, explain the coupling, sprocket, gear or drum arrangement. Similar-looking motors can have different permissible shaft loads or pilot dimensions.

Record hydraulic connections and rotation

Identify main-port thread, position and expected flow direction; case-drain requirement and drain-port position; brake-release or pilot connection; and available hose routing. Record working pressure, peak pressure, return pressure and available flow as separate values with units.

Rotation should be confirmed from machine function and porting, not guessed from a photograph. A return line or case drain acceptable for one motor can be unsuitable for another.

Describe the real machine duty

State what the motor drives and how it fails in service. Useful facts include loaded and unloaded speed, starts per hour, reversing frequency, continuous running time, shock load, ambient temperature, oil condition and whether the motor drives a winch, wheel, conveyor, mixer, drill or slewing mechanism.

A replacement that fits dimensionally can still be wrong if it cannot meet the actual starting torque, speed, thermal or brake duty.

Compare the proposed replacement before ordering

Use the proposed installation drawing and technical data to compare flange, shaft, port positions, overall envelope, rotation, case-drain arrangement, permitted pressure and speed, and optional brake or valve functions. Check whether existing hoses can reach without strain and whether service access remains possible.
